I bought a small staple of book around the „MAKER MOVEMENT“ – and now start to present them in my Weblog. The start is the book „Cool Tools. A catalogue of Possibilities“. It is of impressive format, full of fascinating tools, but everything is available online, too. But if you like to have a heavy weight present for a Maker in your family (who is able to read English), this is the right present. Of course, this includes a long list of products that can be bought – but the descriptions and selections are worth it (in a way it reminds me of the German MANUFACTUM book, with other products and focus).
The description of the book is correct 😉 –
Cool Tools is a highly curated selection of the best tools available for individuals and small groups. Tools include hand tools, maps, how-to books, vehicles, software, specialized devices, gizmos, websites — and anything useful. Tools are selected and presented in the book if they are the best of kind, the cheapest, or the only thing available that will do the job. This is an oversized book which reviews over 1,500 different tools, explaining why each one is great, and what its benefits are. Indirectly the book illuminates the possibilities contained in such tools and the whole catalog serves an education outside the classroom. The content in this book was derived from ten years of user reviews published at the Cool Tools website, cool-tools.org.
Some pics are of very bad resolution, and do not ask me what topic is not within the book. I think the whole world is mentioned there, in a way.
P.S. If you want to buy it via Amazon it would be nice to boost the nonprofit BIMS e.V., dealing with open educational resources (just click https://www.boost-project.com/de/shops?charity_id=2111&tag=bl – no extra costs for you!)
